Travis Atkinson

Travis Atkinson, L.C.S.W., is the director and creator of The Loving at Your Best Plan. Travis has extensive training in marriage and couples therapy, based on nearly 20 years in practice and certificates from top-rated couples therapy programs. He is a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist and Supervisor, an Advanced Certified Schema Couples Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer, and a Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist. Travis serves on the executive board for the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) as Public Affairs Coordinator, and is a Founding Member of the New York Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (NYCEFT).

Travis has trained couples therapists nationally and internationally for many years, including recent trainings in Italy, South Korea, the Netherlands, Russia, and the New England Educational Institute in Cape Cod. Travis is a supervisor and trainer at the Schema Therapy Institute, and is co-author of the latest schema mode therapy inventory, the SMI. He recently published “Schema Therapy for Couples: Healing Partners in a Relationship” in the Handbook of Schema Therapy (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012). He co-presented in Cape Cod with Jeffrey Young, Ph.D., the founder of schema therapy, for three years, training other couples therapists. He also recently completed a video to help couples therapists working with gay and lesbian couples with Sue Johnson, Ph.D., the founder of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Travis graduated from New York University, with graduate degrees in Clinical Social Work and Management.
